Journey to the centre of New Zealand with this scenic and at times challenging hike in Nelson. Beginning at the Botanical Reserve the trail crosses a number of historic points including the reserve where New Zealand's first rugby game was played. There are a number of trails leading to the summit so you can choose the one that best suits or interests you. Either way, once you reach the summit you'll be treated to amazing views of the surrounding Nelson region and see the location that was a central survey point in the 1800s.
The centre is distinguished with a plaque and a giant needle with benches and railings around the lookout point. When it comes time to descend, you can follow a number of trails back to the place you began or you can continue forward to Branford Park and to the popular Black Hole swimming hole to then return along the Maitai track.
